Barbican’s producers have robust backgrounds in structuring official international co-productions and production service agreements, and making them work! Having been the lead producers in a number of co-produced feature films since 2003 – made in joint venture with production companies from Canada, Hungary, Germany, the USA, Slovakia, Malta and Turkey, among other nations – our producers are very well versed in this area of the business.
Whether within the frameworks of official bilateral or multi-party treaties, service agreements, post-production
facilities deals or co-finance agreements, our producers have operated with success in meeting both the technical
and creative requirements of the productions as well as navigating and accessing national tax rebate schemes.
The government of the United Kingdom currently offers a generous 40% tax rebate on eligible expenditure – payable to the production – on completion of any qualifying film made in full or in part in the UK. As a co-producer under an official co- production treaty or as a service provider under a production services agreement, Barbican is able to access this incentive.
